Kenyon Senior Conducts Kokosing River Survey

By: MVOhio.net News Staff

June 27, 2015 - 12:39 AM

A Kenyon College senior is asking Knox County residents to take a survey this summer about their connections to the Kokosing River. Jennifer Seely, who studies anthropology and environmental science, also will take water samples from various points to examine for microplastics, which could include tiny fibers from polyester clothing, microbeads from soap or broken-down bits of larger items.

She is surveying people online and by paper to gauge their opinions about the waterway and their habits of visiting the river, which the Ohio Department of Natural Resources calls one of the most diverse and healthy streams in the state.

The online questionnaire, which takes less than 10 minutes, can be found at http://bit.ly/1HkHOrs

Seely would like residents to forward the link to others, and she will offer paper copies at public libraries in the county. She also is looking for people who are willing to participate in a longer interview or focus group.

For more information, contact Seely at seelyj@kenyon.edu.
