"The Defiant Requiem" to be Featured at Public Library Brown Bag Chat

Press Release

June 29, 2015 -12:38 AM

The acclaimed documentary film "The Defiant Requiem" will be featured at the Escape the Ordinary Adult Summer Reading Program Brown Bag Chat on Wednesday, July 1, noon, at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street.

Imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp, composer Rafael Schächter and fellow inmates use the power of music to fight back. In this moving, award-winning documentary film with excerpts from survivors and their families, a memorial concert reawakens the story of an artistic uprising in the Nazi concentration camp, Terezin, where a chorus of 150 inmates confronts the Nazis face-to-face…and sings to them what they dare not say.

The program is free and open to the public of all ages. Refreshments served or feel free to bring your own bag lunch. Participants are encouraged to sign up for the Escape the Ordinary Adult Summer Reading Program to be eligible for weekly and monthly prizes.

For more information, call the main library at 740-392-BOOK (2665), visit www.knox.net, or email communityrelations@knox.net.
