"Lilies of the Field," to be Featured at Silver Screeners Movie Matinee

February 25, 2016 - 2:17 PM

The Academy Award nominated film, "Lilies of the Field," will be featured at the Silver Screeners free movie matinee on Sunday, February 28, 1:30 pm, at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N Mulberry Street.

The 1963 film was nominated for Best Picture and achieved motion picture history when actor Sidney Poitier won the Best Actor Oscar making him the first black man in history to win the coveted award.

Poitier plays an ex-GI who stops by a farm being run by five German nuns and agrees to stay on as a helper. The nuns stubbornly insist he is a miracle from God and convince Poitier to stay on and build them a chapel in this lively film.

Guest host Linette Porter-Metler, PLMVKC Community Relations, will lead a discussion prior to the group viewing the film. Refreshments will be served. The program is free and open to all ages.
