"Lilies of the Field," to be Featured at Silver Screeners Movie Matinee

The Academy Award nominated film, "Lilies of the Field," will be
featured at the Silver Screeners free movie matinee on Sunday, February
28, 1:30 pm, at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N
The 1963 film was nominated for Best Picture
and achieved motion picture history when actor Sidney Poitier won the
Best Actor Oscar making him the first black man in history to win the
Poitier plays an ex-GI who stops by a farm being run
by five German nuns and agrees to stay on as a helper. The nuns
stubbornly insist he is a miracle from God and convince Poitier to stay
on and build them a chapel in this lively film.
Guest host Linette Porter-Metler, PLMVKC Community Relations, will lead
a discussion prior to the group viewing the film. Refreshments will be
served. The program is free and open to all ages.
