Mount Vernon Police Department Reports and Incidents from 1/8 - 1/11

Vernon Kanode, 19, of Marengo, was cited for driving under and FRA suspension.

Cody Starmer, 26, of Mount Vernon, was arrested for misuse of credit cards.

Karley Kuhn, 20, of Mount Vernon was cited for failure to obey traffic control devices.

Alexander Carrigan, 23, of Mount Vernon was charged with disorderly condict, resisting arrest, and criminal trespassing.

Cody Shrinplin, 22, of Mount Vernon, was citedfor following too closely.

Richard Korns, 62, of Mount Vernon was cited for running a stop-sign.

Jessica Shirley, 40, of Mount Vernon was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence, operating a vehicle while under the influence within 20 years of a prior offense, changing lanes without insuring it was safe to do so, open container, possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia, drug abuse, and resisting arrest.

Constance Pikaart, 30, of Gambier was cited for operating a vehicle without a license and running a stop-sign.

Jonathan Goines, 22, of Mount Vernon was arrested for domestic violence.

Justin Price, 19, of Mount Vernon was charged with domestic violence.

Joseph Gibson, 29, of Mount Vernon, was arrested on a probation violation.

Jill Pollman, 50, of Newark, was cited for running a red light.


Officers responded to the Public Square in response to a civil matter.

Cody Starmer was issued a summons in keu of his arrest for misuse of a credit card.

A male in the 300 block of W. Curtis St. reported his handgun missing and the lockbox that it was inside damaged.

A Gamescape employee reported a male inside the store causing a disturbance. The employee stated that the man had removed his shirt inside the store and was subsequently asked to leave. After the male left the store, he continued to cause a scene outside by continuing to remove his clothing.

The male was arrested after failing to comply with officers' commands. He sustained a head injury and was taken to Knox Community Hospital for treatment. He was then taken to a psychiatric hospital for mental evaluation.

Officers were dispatched to the 0-100 block of Hilltop Dr. on a report of a burglary. A 22Rugar Pistol was reported missing.

A domestic violence incident occurred in the 600 block of W. Gambier St. Jonathan Goines was arrested.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Follin Ave in reference to a vandalism complaint.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Coshocton Ave in reference to a domestic violence complaint.

Officers responded  to the 500 block of E. Burgess St. in response to a report of an open door that appeared to have been kicked in. Officers noted the damage to the door and photographs were taken.

A female requested that officers check on an unoccupied residence.

A complainant arrived at the police station to report his motorcycle stolen. The man stated that his friend had advised him that his motorcycle was listed for sale on Facebook. He went to the out building on W. Park St. where the motorcycle had been parked and found it missing. A report was completed and an investigation is pending.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Shirley Ave on a theft complaint. An Iphone 5C and an Ipod 5G were reported missing.


At 6:05 p.m. on Friday, James Witt, 74, of Mount Vernon, was traveling westbound on W. Chestnut St. in a 2010 Pontiac Vibe ,which is owned by Foster's Pharmacy.  Carley Michelle Kuhn, 20, of Mount Vernon, was traveling eastbound on W. Chestnut St. in her 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Kuhn had the green light, but Witt attempted to turn onto N. Mulberry St. Witt struck Kuhn’s vehicle.

On Friday, Tom Goeppinger, 54, of Fredericktown, was heading southbound on Vernonview Drive in a 2014 Chevy Traverse.  He stopped for a red-light at Coshocton Ave. A juvenile, who was heading westbound on Coshocton Ave. in a 2002 Ford F-150, attempted to turn north onto Vernonview Dr. The juvenile lost control of their vehicle and struck Goeppinger’s vehicle.  The juvenile was unable to provide proof of insurance coverage.

On Friday, Tom Goeppinger, 54, of Fredericktown was headed southbound on Vernonview Dr. in a 2014 Chevy Traverse.  Cynthia Patterson, 49, of Columbus was immediately behind him in a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. Both vehicles were stopped for a red-light at the Coshocton Avenue intersection.  Goeppinger's vehicle backed up and struck Patterson’s vehicle.

On Friday, Thomas W. Cottrell, Jr., 34, of Danville was heading eastbound on W. High St. in a 2013 Ford Explorer.  Cody R. Shrimplin, 22, of Mount Vernon was immediately behind him in a 2013 Ford Focus.  Cottrell stopped for a red-light at the Sandusky St. intersection, Shrimplin failed to stop and rear-ended him.

On Sunday, Catherine A. Jang, 43, of Mount Vernon was traveling westbound on New Gambier Rd. in a 2004 Jeep Liberty.  She attempted to stop as she approached the S. Edgewood Road intersection, slid off the right side of the roadway, and struck a stop sign.  Due to the weather and roadway conditions, she was not issued a citation for the incident.
