COLUMBUS - U.S. Attorney Carter Stewart, prosecuting attorney in the federal court case against former Mount Vernon Police Detective Matthew Dailey, requested and was granted a 30 day extension of the time in which he must return an indictment. The deadline, which originally was set for Monday, has been extended to December 30 upon the approval of U.S. Magistrate Judge Norah McCann King in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Dailey, 44, of Howard, a 19 year veteran detective, was placed on administrative leave on September 18 and was arrested by FBI Agents on October 1. A criminal complaint filed in October alleges Dailey used his position within the police department to traffic in narcotics and extort others.
