August 30, 2015 - 3:24 PM
farmers’ market at the Knox County Health Department will feature a
little bit of everything – a food demo, something for kids, door prizes
and locally grown fruit and vegetables. The bi-monthly farmers’ market
takes place the first and third Tuesday of the month from 4 – 6:30 p.m.
in the parking lot on the south side of the health department.
Chef Paul Higgins will demonstrate different ways to prepare brussel
sprouts. If you have never been a fan of this vegetable which is grown
in cooler weather, you will want to sample Higgins’ sprouts sautéed with
shallots and maple syrup. Master gardeners with OSU Extension - Knox
County will present a kid’s activity involving butterflies.
who attend the food demonstration will also have the opportunity to
register for a freezer and a gas grill to be given away at the end of
the market season in September. The give-away is part of the Get Healthy
Knox County campaign with funding provided by United Way of Knox County
in collaboration with Herald’s Appliances. Additionally, all
registrants will be eligible for door prizes related to the food demo.
at the Tuesday market are the same growers that sell at the Saturday
market on the Public Square in downtown Mount Vernon. The health
department market is open to the general public and is held rain or
shine. In the case of inclement weather, the vendors and food
demonstration will be moved inside.
