GAMBIER - Despite gloomy, overcast skies and a slight chill, the spirit of the annual Kenyon College Community picnic was festive this evening.
Sponsored by the Kenyon Office of Student Affairs as a way of promoting the Gund Gallery exhibitions, the picnic, which kicks off the Kenyon school year, has become an annual tradition where students, alumni, staff, family and community members are welcomed. through the past nine years, the picnic has grown.
Following the First-Year Sing, another college tradition in which members of the freshman class sing Kenyon-related songs, a large feast featuring traditional picnic dishes like hamburgers, Italian sausages, pasta salad, cole slaw, various types of pie, and cookies were served buffet-style by Kenyon culinary staff.
A number of pets also made their appearance. Dogs, cats, and a pet goat were especially popular with both children and adults.
A good time was had by all, as people from many different backgrounds converged on the town.
