a continued effort to encourage local residents to eat better and
provide access to locally produced fruits and vegetables, the Knox
County Health Department hosts a bi-monthly Farmers' Market. The market
takes place in the parking lot on the south side of the health
department and is scheduled for the first and third Tuesday of the
month, July through September, from 4 – 6:30 p.m. In addition to local
produce for sale, each market features food preparation demonstrations
and related activities.
Remaining markets are: Sept. 1, featuring
Kid's Gardening Activity with Master Gardeners from OSU-Extension, Knox
County; and Sept. 15, featuring Harvest Day with teacher Martha Melick
and students from Mount Vernon High School.
Exhibitors at the health department market
are the same growers that sell at the Saturday market on the Public
Square in downtown Mount Vernon. The health department market is open to
the general public and is held rain or shine. In the case of inclement
weather, the food demonstration will be moved inside. For more
information on the farmer’s markets at the health department, contact
