Health Department Farmer's Market to Feature Tips for Healthy School Lunches
Need ideas for healthy 'back-to-school' lunches for your kids? Tuesday's farmers’ market at the Knox County Health Department will feature healthy tips for school lunches. The market will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in their parking lot – rain or shine.
Executive Chef Paul Higgins will be on hand with "Crunch for Lunch" cooking demonstrations. Plus they will have drawings for free soft-sided lunch bags and registration to win a small chest freezer and a gas grill. The freezer and grill give-away is part of the Get Healthy Knox County campaign with funding provided by United Way of Knox County in collaboration with Herald's Appliances.
In honor of National Farmers’ Market Week (Aug 2-8), everyone attending the market will receive a reusable cloth shopping bag. The theme for this year is “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food."
In addition to the cooking demonstrations and giveaways, local farmers will be on hand selling fresh fruits and vegetables. This is open to all residents and WIC clients.
