Knox County Sheriff's Office Reports 4/11

April 12, 2016 - 11:39 AM

On 04/11/2016, a resident of Harrison Ave., Mount Vernon, reported receiving a call from an unknown person claiming to be her grandson. The suspect stated that he had been in a car accident with a rental car that he was driving. The suspect claimed that his insurance would not cover a $2000.00 repair bill, and she needed to send the money through Apple IPhone gift cards. She withdrew $2000.00 from her Barclay credit card and purchased the cards. She was then in contact with a "Ralph Davenport," a representative from the fraudulent car rental agency. She gave the card numbers to the suspect.

She contacted her grandson after the transaction. He stated that the information was false and he did not rent a car nor get into an accident.

A complainant called and advised that she was at Douglas J. Boyd's residence on Smith St. in Mount Vernon and he was refusing to give her back her property. Complainant advised the suspect has an active warrant for his arrest and he ran from the residence. The suspect was located and taken into custody. The complainant was advised to not have anymore contact with the suspect and his family and to stay off of their property.
