Grand Jury Indicts 21, Second Session to be Held

MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Grand Jury indicted 21 people for felonies on Monday, and Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville reported that there will be a second grand jury session this month to take care of a high volume of cases. 

Richard C. McKee, 62, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Failure to Comply with the Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a third-degree felony. McKee is accused of failing to stop when an officer tried to initiate a traffic stop. The chase through Mount Vernon, which reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, ended when McKee’s vehicle ran out of gas. This case was investigated by MVPD Ptl. Aaron Collins.

Joshua J. Wilson, 31, of Mount Vernon was indicted for three counts of Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs, third-degree felonies, one count of Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs, a third-degree felony, Having Weapons While Under Disability, a third-degree felony, Aggravated Possession of Drugs, and Possession of Heroin, both fifth degree felonies. These charges involve multiple investigations. This case was investigated by MVPD Ptl. Aaron Collins and KCSO Det. Brandon Minot.

Benjamin A. Miller, 19 of Howard was indicted for two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, third and fourth-degree felonies, Failure to Stop After Accident, a fifth-degree felony, and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor. Kevin L. Lyons, 30, of Howard and Perry A. Prior, 35, of Westerville were both indicted for Tampering with Evidence, a third-degree felony, and Obstructing Justice, a fifth-degree felony. Miller is alleged to have run a victim over while driving intoxicated on a dirt bike. Lyons and Prior are alleged to have helped hide the bike and remove Miller from the scene of the accident. This case was investigated by OSHP Tpr. Steven B. Hill.

John J. Kerin, Jr., 30, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Aggravated Possession of Drugs and Having Weapons While Under Disability, both third-degree felonies, as well as Possessing a Defaced Firearm, a first-degree misdemeanor. Kerin is alleged to have been found in possession of methamphetamine and a firearm after being picked up on a warrant. This case was investigated by Det. Brandon Minot.

Robin E. Ballengee, 23, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Complicity in the Commission of Burglary, a third-degree felony. This case was investigated by Det. Brandon Minot.

Jozn E. Ocker, 33, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Burglary, a third-degree felony, Identity Fraud, a fourth-degree felony, Theft and Forgery, both fifth-degree felonies. Ocker is alleged to have impersonated the victim and withdrew over $1,000 from a CES account. This case was investigated by Det. Brandon Minot.

Anthony R. Serio, 36, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for Burglary, a third-degree felony, and two counts of Aggravated Possession of Drugs, both fifth-degree felonies. In March Serio was stopped by OSHP and was in possession of what is believed to be methamphetamine. In May, Serio was found unconscious in his vehicle by MVPD with suspected methamphetamine in his possession. This case was investigated by Cpl. Rex Young, Det. Brandon Minot, and OSHP Tpr. James P. King.

Jeremy A. Helmick, 37, of Fredericktown was indicted for Burglary, a third-degree felony, Failure to Comply With the Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a fourth-degree felony, and Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a fifth-degree felony. Helmick is alleged to have refused to pull over for officers. Officers found what they believe to be meth in his vehicle during a search incident to his arrest. This case was investigated by Det. Brandon Minot and MVPD Ptl. Michael Wheeler.

Along with other unrelated charges, Ballengee, Ocker, Serio, and Helmick are all accused of burglarizing a residence on Pinkley Road in April.

Stacie A. Hall, 33, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs, a second degree felony, Trafficking in Cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, and a forfeiture specification as to count two for $439.00. This case was investigated by Cpl. Rex Young.

David J. Marcum, 39, of Lancaster and Daniel A. Mathey, 21 of Newark, were both indicted for Burglary and two counts of Grand Theft of a firearm, all third-degree felonies. This case was investigated by KCSO Det. Sgt. David Light.

Tamara J. Brown, 32, of Heath was indicted for Theft, a fifth-degree felony. Brown is alleged to have stolen a tax refund in an amount excess of $5,000. This case was investigated by MVPD Ptl. Sarah Wheeler.

Anthony M. Vance, 38, of Gambier was indicted for two counts of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence, fourth-degree felonies, Driving Under Suspension and Driving Under OVI Suspension, both first-degree misdemeanors. This case was investigated by KCSO Dep. Aaron Phillips.

Derek S. Weber, 35, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a fifth-degree felony. This case was investigated by MVPD Ptl. Jessica Butler.

Tracey C. Garee, 50, of Mount Vernon was indicted for Pandering Sexually Oriented Matter Involving a Minor, a fourth-degree felony. Garee is alleged to have sexually explicit material involving minors on his cell phone. It was discovered by store employees after the phone was brought in for service. This case was investigated by KCSO Det. Danial Bobo.

Ashli N. Price, 30, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for two counts of Aggravated Possession of Drugs and Possession of Drugs, all fifth-degree felonies. This case was investigated by Det. Danial Bobo.

Michael A. Mayo, 48, of Lodi, was indicted for Importuning, a fifth-degree felony. Mayo is accused of trying to engage in sexual activities with a minor, who turned out to be an undercover officer. This case was investigated by Det. Danial Bobo.

Joseph S. Jones, 36, and Nancy A. Wible, 30, both of Columbus were indicted for two counts of Forgery, fifth-degree felonies, and Theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. The pair is alleged to have attempted to cash checks at multiple Killbuck Savings banks. This case was investigated by KCSO Dep. Scott Baker.

Arraignments on these cases are scheduled for Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas.
