Mount Vernon Police Department Reports from 4/29 - 5/1

Sophia Walker, 22, of Howard, was cited for failure to yield.

Arlene Smith 74, of Mount Vernon, cited for a red light violation.

Hedy Hart 60, of Mount Vernon, was cited for failure to control.

Joseph Poole, 91, of Fredericktown, was cited for starting and backing vehicles without vigilance.

Edward Smith, 60, of Fredericktown, was cited for failure to control.

Nicholas Higgins, 36, of Mount Vernon, was cited for driving or physical control while under the influence and driving under suspension/revocation.


Staff at East Elementary School reported a trespassing incident.

A complainant reported that he observed two male subjects leaving the apartment building located in the 600 block of McKenzie St. with what appeared to be the coin box from a coin operated dryer in the basement.

On April 29, at approximately 8:29 PM, officers arrived in the area of S. Jefferson St. and W. Vine St. on a report of a mle who had been yellign and causing a disturbance. Officers subsequently made contact with Lance Larue Martin, who appeared to be intoxicated. Mr. Martin had been warned at approximately 7:00 PM in the area of W. High St. Mr. Martin was arrested without incident and was transported to the Knox County Jail. He was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated, persisting.

A complainant in the 500 block of N. Main St. reported the theft of numerous CDs in a case and a criminal mischief incident. the rear window pane was broken out of a vehicle.

An officer responded to the 0-100 block of Craig Dr. on a vandalism complaint. The complainant provided a description of the suspects and direction of travel. The officer searched the area, but was unable to locate the suspects. A written statement was obtained and photographs were taken of the damaged front window.

A disturbance was reported in the 200 block of Shirley Ave.


A 2000 Nissan Sentra, operated by Sophia L. Walker, of Howard, was traveling east on private property located at 855 Coshocton Ave. A 2010 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, operated by Margie Armstrong, of Fredericktown, was traveling north on Vernonview Dr., approaching Walker's location. Walker failed to yield by attempting to cross Vernonview Dr. to 907 Coshocton Ave. Walker's vehicle was struck by Armstrong's vehicle.

A 2005 Buick LaCrosse, operated by Arlene Smith, of Mount Vernon,  was westbound on W. Chestnut St. and ran the red light at N. Sandusky St. Smith's vehicle then struck a 1991 GMC truck, operated by Mark Erdenberger, of Bellville, which was northbound on N. Sandusky St.

A 200 Pontiac Sunfire, operated by Hedy Hart, of Howard, was parked northeast-bound in the Little Caesars parking lot. A 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Robert Sargent, of Marengo, was traveling northbound through the parking lot. Hart backed southwest bound, failing to see Sargent's vehicle, and striking Sargent's vehicle in the right side.
